On your mark, get set...

Build!

The task has been released and now it is up to you and your team to build a project for this hackathon. The deadline is November 17th, 2025!

Here is your mission brief

You are the USNIC liaison to the USCG detachment for the Great Lakes and have been asked by the USCG Commander for your predictions for ice cover for the next week.

You will use satellite-based ice chart information from the USNIC for the preceding three weeks.

What to Build: A user interface solution using one of the provided datasets that can help the USCG ice mission on the Great Lakes to provide predictions for ice cover. We are looking for new, creative, and original ways to solve this problem. Based on this information, you will produce:

  • Ice forecast that shows the spatial field of ice on each of the 4 days (today +3) and includes a narrative description for each
  • a narrative of how you solved the problem and what inputs or models you used in determining the above

What to Submit:

๐Ÿšข Your Project - A URL to your publicly available working solution. This should direct judges and reviewers to the user interface that uses the provided datasets.

๐Ÿ”— The Code - A URL to your public and open source code repository. The repository must contain all necessary source code, assets, and instructions required for the project to be functional. The repository must be public and open source by including an open source license file. This license should be detectable and visible at the top of the repository page (in the About section).

๐Ÿ“ A write-up - A text description that should explain the features and functionality of your Project.

๐ŸŽฅ A Video - A demonstration video showing your Project and how it works. The video should be less than three (3) minutes, include footage that shows the Project functioning, and must be uploaded to and made publicly visible on YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook Video, or Youku.

See Official Rules for details.

Submission Deadline: November 17th, 2025
